Howdenshire Forward Introduction

The area of Howdenshire was selected in 2004-05 to be one of the market towns in the Renaissance Market Town Programme, run by Yorkshire Forward, the Regional Development Agency.

The aim of the programme is to develop a long term plan to maintain and develop sustainable economies in key market towns, and aims to ensure that they are places where people want to live, work, invest in and visit.

The programme for each market town is driven by an agreed strategy and co-ordinated by a local partnership made up of public, private and community sector representatives, which in this case is the Howdenshire Forward Partnership. To keep the Partnership focused on delivering the strategy, an Annual Action Plan will be produced to set out how it plans to deliver the different elements of the strategy over the coming year.

By being involved with Yorkshire Forward's Renaissance Market Town Programme, the area of Howdenshire can benefit from the production of a long term strategy for improving the area, the expertise of consultants and of Yorkshire Forward in delivering this strategy and the possibility of investment of over £1,000,000 in the area from Yorkshire Forward and other funding sources.
