Howdenshire Forward Introduction
In 2004 Howdenshire was part of Yorkshire Forward's Renaissance Market Town Programme. The aim of the programme was to develop a long term plan to maintain and develop sustainable economies in key market towns. Howdenshire Forward partnership worked with Yorkshire Forward to develop and influence a range of projects to address issues affecting the area. The Partnership was established with public, private and community sector partners with the aim of making the town of Howden a better place to live, work, invest in and visit by developing the local economy and improving local services with growth and development being managed in a sustainable way to protect the history and character of Howdenshire.
Being part of Yorkshire Forward's Renaissance Market Town Programme, the area benefited from the development of a long term strategy for improving the social, cultural, economic and environmental fabric of the area and from the expertise of consultants and Yorkshire Forward in delivering the strategy. An investment of circa. £126,000 gave Howdenshire Forward the opportunity to attract a further £244,000 through the Rural Target Fund, English Heritage and a host of other funding providers. Thousands of people hours also contributed to the success of a number of projects facilitated, supported and delivered by Howdenshire Forward and partners. Please click on the link at the side for a breakdown of our income and projects that have benefitted.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council ceased providing dedicated officer support to the Partnership in April 2010, however Howdenshire Forward remains an active partnership. Please contact Hugh Roberts, Chair - Howdenshire Forward for up to date partnership information, by emailing hughroberts@fsmail.net.
Wallingfen Way: A Vision for the B1230
Wallingfen Way is a visionary concept aiming to remove `a scar on the landscape' (the B1230) and replace it with a coherent boulevard known as Wallingfen Way, a distinct rural community corridor. The Project aims to reinforce the distinctive character and identity of three Howdenshire villages, Gilberdyke, Newport and North Cave, to reclaim the road for the local community.
The real power behind the project is that it is genuinely developed from and by the communities that live with the difficulties faced by the intrusiveness of the road. This has been at the heart of the B1230 Working Group's success: motivation, determination, vision and dedication to sign up to a long-term project. These values and activities create an effective working partnership across all sectors, in particular engaging three community parish councils to work collectively together under one working group.
Detailed information about the Concept and activities is available in the download section, please click on 'Wallingfen Way: A Vision'.
